Enjoy local, farm-fresh produce! The Arc of Washington County is hosting a Farmers Market on Friday, August 13, from 8 am to 11 am, in the parking lot in front of our temporary administrative offices at 18450 Showalter Road. Note: this is a new location just for the summer of 2021 while renovation is being completed on our Florida Avenue campus.
For this market, expect to see tomatoes, a variety of sweet and hot peppers, corn, zucchini, summer squash (crook neck and patty pan), cucumbers, melons, greens, and more fresh produce from Litton’s Produce and Berries and VFF Produce.
Laurie Waltz of Waltz Family Farm is returning with her local beef, pork, lamb, goat, and cheese.
New to us this year:
Abby Angles of Abby’s Gluten-Free Baked Goods will be offering mini loaves of lemon blueberry, banana, and cinnamon swirl breads, trail mix bars, chocolate scotcheroos, no bake granola bars, crunchy nut bars, and other treats.
Cool Brook Farm will bring their hand-gathered, free-range eggs, fresh cut flowers, and local honey from Stoner Apiary.
Diparma Farms offers chicken, duck, and quail eggs and meat, and fresh baked goods. The flocks at Diparma Farms are hormone and antibiotic free and are never caged.
Painted Pastures raises Nigerian dwarf goats and uses the milk in their hand-crafted soaps and bath bombs.
Smitty’s Snacks will offer a variety of savory and sweet flavors of peanuts, including Old Bay style, dill pickle, mesquite, Buffalo, Cajun, cinnamon toast, and pumpkin spice.
Also new this year, we will have a food truck at our market! In August, check out Rollz on Wheelz Filipino Cuisine. In September, we’ll have Boondoks BBQ here with breakfast and lunch items.
Many farmers will accept credit/debit cards – and they all accept cash. In addition to Arc Bucks (for Arc WC employees only), for the first time, we will have vendors who accept SNAP/EBT. SNAP/EBT participants may also be eligible for Maryland Market Money to further their purchasing power. Free market bag with purchase, while they last!
Pro tip: depending on what you’re buying, you might want to bring a cooler and ice (or “blue ice”) with you to protect your purchases until you can get them home.
We always have recipe ideas to share – and love to hear what you’ve prepared with your fresh produce. Please come join us this Friday morning! For more about our market and participating vendors, please visit our Farmers Market page at myMonarc.org/farmers-market.
