  • Celebrate the birthday and inspiring legacy of Emma "Grandma" Gatewood- the first women to solo thru hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Main- and she accomplished this feat at 67 years of age! Her courage and adventurous spirit continue to inspire generations! Hikers will meet at 10 a.m. at the Washington Monument State Park. Hike begins at 10:30 a.m. with breathtaking valley views. After the hike join for the Birthday Bash back at II Forno Vanish for a FREE showing of "Trail Magic: The Grandma Gatewood Story", an inspiring documentary of the woman who saved the Appalachian Trail. Following the movie enjoy a casual lunch in a family friendly space featuring pizza, chicken wings, and salad...and of course, Birthday Cake! A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Boonsboro Appalachian Trail Community.
